Anonymous asked: Hi there, I'm applying for Leeds college of Art next year, but I'm not able to view it before I put in my application- I was wondering if you could tell me a bit about it? Accommodation/ night-life/ people and the college in general (i'd be studying Illustration) - And advice would be really helpful.. Thanks x
Arh it is a shame you didn’t get to look round the college. First of all the college is great, it is pretty small compared to the big surrounding universities (which comes with pros and cons but that goes for anywhere) I guess it depends if you want to go for the big uni campus lifestyle or go to a place that specialises in just the arts where your surrounded by a tight community of creatives. The accommodation in Leeds is pretty good, the college offers 3 places at different price ranges, one of them is pretty much round the corner. This doesnt mean that you have to stick to these places, as I had friends who lived elsewhere but they became a little isolated because they were not with the leeds college of art crowd. Leeds is known for its night life, they is loads of places to do ranging from bug clubs like Tiger Tiger to little indie underground clubs like Wire and Hifi. There is also Canal Mills, an amazing converted Warehouse. When it comes to the Illustration course, it is a really new set up as it has only been running for one year. The guy who runs it is the guy who set up the successful graphic design course that I am currently on (illustration runs off that model) The studio is a great space, and the tutors are really enthusiastic. Matt the horse also teaches on the course which is great because is quite a well known illustrator (check him out if you don’t know him) Hope that helps!
